Biography:

Manish Pushkale is one of India's most highly regarded young painters. Despite lacking formal training in art, he developed a powerful and sensitive connection to art while at Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal. His artistic journey has led him to create a unique language of abstraction that bears his distinctive personal touch.

Pushkale's early training in geology is reflected in the organic textures of his works, his meticulous selection of colors, and his method of applying and wiping off paint. These techniques evoke complex meditations on themes such as asceticism and worldliness, renunciation and sensuality, presence and absence, as well as dying and rebirth. His art often explores formal dichotomies like light and shade, mark and erasure, form and formlessness, restraint and excess, and control and indulgence. Over time, his work has matured to confront and harmonize these oppositions, achieving a state of refined harmony.

Manish Pushkale has an impressive artistic career, including fifteen solo shows at prominent galleries in India and abroad. He has also participated in nearly seven hundred group exhibitions in India and internationally, as well as five two-man shows. His dedication to art has earned him numerous awards and honors, including the AIFACS Award, the Ministry of Culture's Junior Research Fellowship, and the Artist-in-Residency programs of France and Italy, as well as support from the Reliance Group. He is a trustee of the Raza Foundation, a member of the Garhi Studio selection committee under the Ministry of Culture, and a member of the Executive Committee of the M.P. Foundation in Delhi.

Notably, Manish Pushkale established the "Vaid Samman," an annual award in honor of Shri K.B. Vaid, a legendary Hindi fiction writer. This award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to Hindi literature. Pushkale resides and works in Delhi.
