People have always been my muses. The labyrinth of external resources, though superficial, never fails to amaze me. Immersing myself in the pleasures, desires, wants, and needs of the people around me and those I encounter, I celebrate their appearances, their happiness, and their courage to flaunt and define themselves with newfound abandon, discarding inhibitions if any and creating cracks in the social fabric to fit into the 'high society'. Pretensions become a need here, and they may evolve into a necessity. I am concerned with the 'high' of these pretensions. So what if one loses oneself in the tangle of confusion and incomprehensibility over time? That would be an entirely different canvas, perhaps for later.
I see myself as a mediator, a facilitator between the situation and the people within it. Relying more on my photographic memory, I capture snapshots without telling stories and refrain from formal narratives.
Drawing inspiration from the newfound wealth of illiterate landlords, the glitzy TV serials, professionals breaking free from the cocoon of tradition and village upbringing, and the gullible young men and women fervently trying to fit into the 'elite', I explore the need for identity change, the craving for the unnecessary, and the compulsive metamorphosis. This results in a new aesthetics that fascinate me, transforming the daunting consumerism into an amusement rather than a negative force to be reckoned with.
The raw passion of this exploration intoxicates me as I delve into their physical personas and lightly touch upon their revelatory psyche, allowing myself to indulge in their intemperance. It is a quintessentially Indian experience.
