"Colour speaks to me in many ways; it has an instinctive relationship with nature and the environment. I use colours to overlap/ juxtapose/ slash because I want to create a tremendous variety of tonality and movements through lines and textures."
Painter and printmaker, Rini Dhumal, was born in 1948 in Bengal. She strongly believes in art which has its own energy, its own verve – one that speaks a language that is universal, that captures the fullness of life in all its tones, experiences and contradictions. She communicates with Colors that plays a very significant part in her work and is the thread that runs through nature to connect to the world that surrounds her.
She has taken part in several solo shows of her work as well as group shows both in India and abroad including ‘Tales of the Prophetess’ at the Art Alive Gallery in New Delhi, ‘Shakti’ at the Arts India in New York, ‘The Santiniketan’ at Jamaat in Mumbai, and ‘Wounds’ at the Center for International Modern Art (CIMA) in Kolkata.
She received Senior Fellowship, Ministry of Human Resource, New Delhi in 1994-96, 1988 - National Award by Lalit Kala Akademi, 1985 - Aifacs Award N.Delhi, 1983-85 Research Fellowship, Ministry of Human Resource, New Delhi, 1977 - Group 8 Award, 1975-76 - French Government Scholarship; 1973–75 - Government of India Cultural Scholarship; 1974 - Governor's Gold Medal, Calcutta and 1972 Chancellor's Gold Medal.
